If you love donuts then you are going to love these recipes to make your own homemade donuts! In some cases you need only a few ingredients to make yummy donuts in your own kitchen!

1. Plain Cake Donuts

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2tablespoons baking powder
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoon melted butter
  • Ā½ cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 quart oil for frying


  • Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees
  • In a large bowl sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  • Mix butter until crumbly
  • Stir in milk and egg until smooth
  • Then knead dough lightly and turn out onto a lightly floured surface
  • Roll to Ā¼ inch thickness, cut with a donut cutter
  • Carefully drop donuts into hot oil, a few at a time do not overcrowd pan. Fry turning once until golden. Drain on paper towel.

2. Grandmas Donuts

  • 2 quarts oil for deep frying
  • 1-2 refrigerated butter milk biscuits dough
  • 1/2 cup confectionerā€™s sugar
  • Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees
  • Separate out the biscuits and cut a hole in the middle of each one.
  • Carefully slide donuts into hot oil then fry until golden brown on both sides
  • Drain briefly on wire racks placed over baking sheets
  • Place the confectionerā€™s sugar in a bowl and roll the donuts in the sugar

3. Herman Sourdough Donuts

  • 7 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 tablespoons for shortening
  • Ā½ cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup Herman sourdough starter
  • Ā½ cup milk
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • Ā½ teaspoon salt
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons confectionerā€™s sugar
  • In a large mixing bowl cream together shortening and sugar, beat in the eggs, Herman starter and milk
  • In a separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg
  • Sir flour mixture into the starter mixture until well blended.
  • Turn dough onto a well floured surface and roll out or flatten to Ā½ inch thickness
  • Cut out donuts with a donut cutter
  • Cover the donuts and let them rise for 1 hour
  • Heat oil in deep fryer for 375 degrees
  • Carefully slide donuts into hot oil, fry until golden brown, and drain using paper towels, sprinkle with confectionerā€™s sugar and serve hot

4. Yeast Donuts

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • Ā¾ cup milk
  • Ā¾ cup white sugar
  • Ā¼ cup butter
  • Ā½ teaspoon salt
  • 3eggs
  • 2 quart oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup confectionerā€™s sugar for dusting
  • In a large mixing bowl combine 1Ā¾ cups flour with yeast. In a sauce pan heat milk, sugar, butter and salt until butter melts
  • Stir milk mixture into flour along with eggs, beating with a heavy duty electric mixture on low for 30 seconds just to combine
  • Add the remaining flour and stir to make a firm but pliable dough
  • Knead dough on lightly floured work surface until smooth
  • Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover and let the dough rise until it doubles in size for about 1 hour
  • Turn dough out onto floured surface punch out and roll out to Ā½ inch thickness
  • Cut out doughnuts using a donut cutter and transfer into baking sheets, cover and live to rise for about 45 minutes
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer to 360 degrees, fry donuts in batches until golden all over
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove to a rack to drain
  • Eat when cool

5. Fluffy cake donuts

  • 3cups all purpose oil
  • Ā¾ cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ā¾ cup milk
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 cup confectionerā€™s sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • Ā¼teaspoon almond extract
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees, lightly grease doughnut pan
  • In large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Stir in milk, eggs, vanilla and shortening
  • Beat together until well blended
  • Fill each donut cup about Ā¾ full
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven until donuts spring back when touched
  • Allow to cool before removing from pan
  • To make glaze, blend confectionerā€™s sugar, hot water and almond extract in a small bowl

6. Apple Sauce Donuts

  • 2 quarts oil for deep frying
  • Ā¾ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • Ā¾ cup apple sauce
  • 4 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ā½ teaspoon baking soda
  • Ā½ teaspoon ground mace
  • Ā½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Ā½ cup butter milk
  • Ā¼ cup confectionerā€™s sugar for dusting
  • Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees
  • In a large bowl beat together white sugar, butter, eggs and applesauce
  • n a separate bowl stir together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, mace and cinnamon
  • Stir flour mixture into the egg mixture alternately with butter milk, mix until a stiff dough is formed
  • Turn dough out into a lightly floured surface, roll into a Ā¾ to 1 inch thick sheet
  • Make sure to roll the dough to an even thickness
  • Cut out donuts then carefully slide in hot oil
  • Turn donuts as soon as they rise into surface, fry until goal brown, drain on paper towel and dust with confectionerā€™s sugar
  • Serve warm!

7. Maple Glazed Donuts

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 Ā¼ Cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Ā½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Ā¼ teaspoon ground all spice
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup butter milk
  • Ā¾ cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 3 tablespoons melted salted butter
  • Ā½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Whisk eggs, York, butter, milk, pumpkin puree, melted butter and almond extract together in a large bowl until smooth
  • Add wet ingredients and mix until greasy
  • Dust counter tops with flour use hands to pat out dough to Ā½ inch thickness
  • Cut donuts then deep fry in hot oil until golden brown and crispy
  • Once cool dust with cinnamon or maple syrup glaze

8. Mini Baked Donuts

  • Two cups of all purpose baking mix
  • Ā¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2cup milk
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups confectionerā€™s sugar
  • Ā½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon
  • Preheat donuts to 325 degrees
  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well blended
  • Bake 10 to 12 minutes until well cooked
  • Prepare the maple glaze
  • Coat donuts in glaze then put on baking sheet to cool

9. Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Ā½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/8 tablespoon salt
  • 2tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoon butter unsalted
  • 3tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • In a medium bowl mix together all ingredients
  • Bake the donuts for about 9 minutes until golden brown
  • Cool the donuts
  • To make coating, mix together sugar and cinnamon
  • Place the melted butter in another shallow dish
  • Deep donut in the mixture and place back to cool

10. Bread Maker Donuts

  • Ā½ cup warm milk
  • Ā½ beaten eggs
  • Ā¼ cup butter
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • Ā¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 8 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • Put all the ingredients in automatic bread machine
  • Remove the dough to a floured surface and knead a few minutes to collapse all the bubbles
  • Cut the dough into pieces and cover in a damp cloth
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350 degrees
  • Gently place the donuts one at a time into the hot oil and fry until they fly to the top and turn golden brown
  • Remove from oil and dry on paper towels

11. Boston Cream Donuts

  • 1 pkg Pillsbury Grand biscuits
  • Canola oil
  • Vanilla pudding (generally made with 2 cups milk, 1 cup heavy cream, Ā½ cup powdered sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 Ā½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1oz dark chocolate
  • 2 oz milk chocolate
  • 2 Ā¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Prepare filling by whisking together the pudding mix with milk
  • In a separate bowl mix beat on high with an electric mixer the heavy cream with powdered sugar, refrigerate until ready to use
  • Heat oil until hot
  • Separate the donuts and fry until golden brown
  • Add cream, milk, butter, vanilla and corn syrup to a medium sauce pan, heat on medium until butter is melted
  • To assemble, spoon filling into a pastry bag with tip
  • Press tip into side of donut and squeeze until donut appears full
  • Repeat for remaining donuts
